(Mettre paragraphe d'introduction sur l'historique du Château de Bessonies)
The Chateau de Bessonies : A classical four - storied building flanked by two circular towers, the chateau was built on foundations dating from the early middle ages. It was officially recognised as a chateau by the King in 1555.
Recognised from 1552 to 1871 the chateau’s title came to the Ney family in 1789.
Marechal Ney’s father Jean Joseph de Bessonies, a governor of the king, was narrowly saved from death on the guillotine by Robespierre’s death.
His other son, Ambert, married the cousin of Marechal de Ney’s wife and the chateau became theirs after his death.
Chateau visits are led by the owner who tells the remarkable story of her acquisition of the chateau and its restoration and brings the history to life as you see the last home of Marechal Ney, the red haired "brave des braves", an honoured son of France.
